EUTECTIC AND HYPEREUTECTIC ALLOY REFINING

Tablets for alloy refining

For perfect refining of alloys, FONDERMAT INDUSTRY offers its solutions:

The objective of refining is to modify the crystalline structure during solidification, to obtain an alloy with the finest grain size possible. The presence of a very fine structure guarantees essentially two things:

  • better mechanical properties and characteristics than in an alloy with large, inhomogeneous structure
  • lower tendency for porosity and hot crack formation in the alloy

In hypereutectic alloys, the primary silicon refining treatment is frequently preferred to the modification treatment, which is achieved through the addition of phosphorous, with a content of 0.003-0.015%, based on the silicon content and the cooling rate.
